It only makes noise if I start the generator. I stay on shore power with no noise. When I disconnect from the pedestal and start the generator the noise begins.

Ok fellow RV'ers, here is the scoop. The problem was a plastic tag used to identify wires moved between the generator contact of the energy transfer switch. The transfer switch and generator are fine.
