Onan Generator digital hour meter issue?

I have an Onan 2500 Generator in my Arctic Fox camper, and the Genset runs fine, switch works perfect, but I'm getting no reading from the digital hour meter. I called Cummins/Onan and they make a big deal out of getting a serial # off of the generator etc., thus more trouble than it's worth, as since it's just the 12V meter, it should be a simple meter, which should work on them all if I'm not mistaken? I see there are at least a couple of different models that sell on Amazon and other places, but I thought I'd ask here if replacing the hour meter seems like a normal issue with these generators? Some try selling the whole panel, with the switch in the panel as well, but my switch works fine.

Is there any particular things I should know in replacing the hour meter (I see on Amazon they are in the $16. range, and on other sites up to $30.+ and there is even a Youtube video on a fellow changing his out on his motorhome, but I thought I'd ask here to see if others have done this in the past, and if there is any difficulties in purchasing one of these units and having it fit?

I did pull the panel off, and there is 12v power to the digital hour meter, but I'm just not getting a reading!

If you unplug the hour meter it will disable the generator for good. Then you will have to go to church ten weeks in a row and do community service for the homeless before they will reactivate it. It's a sin to manipulate running hours of a generator.

Funny....I'm actually going to sell my Arctic Fox camper, so my thinking was to sell it 'with' a working hour meter display! Anyone is welcome to see that the generator runs perfectly, but I get nothing but a blank screen on the digital display.

I see there are many for sale, so I assume it's generally an issue with this brand as well as others. Unfortunately, my memory isn't what it use to be, so I haven't a clue as to what the numbers where before the display stopped working!

Hour meter is nothing morevthan a runtime clock, genset starts, then sends out 12v to hour metet, if hour meter is blank, check for 12v when running on the plus sise of the meter. Swap it out if you have to.nothing magical about onans

Put a piece of masking tape over it and use a sharpie to write in hours and then list it on Craigslist.
