Hi Gang:
Our propane oven won't ignite. The pilot eventually ignites after about 1 1/2 mins. of holding a flame to it but, for whatever reason the main oven burner won't ignite.
Any ideas? Is the cure easily handled by a retired banker with limited mechanical skills?
Any suggestions will be gretly appreciated.

Pat, if you can observe the pilot when you set the oven t'stat to say 350 does the pilot get a little larger? It should and then heat another safety valve that when it gets its thermocouple hot it opens and lets the gas into the main burner. I would recommend you have someone that is qualified to repair gas appliances diagnose and repair this for your safety. Good luck and let men know how it turns out. You might even find a propane company that sells & services appliances help out in this matter.

I would agree with Mike. Propane appliances are dangerous for an amature to work with. It does sound like the heat sensor, but you could spend a lot of money in just changing parts and then still have the porblem when you finish. This is not a good place for an amature.

Ever since we had the stove/oven installed two years ago it has never worked right - always hard to light. They replaced the first one but this one is no better and Camping World refused to do any more. I procrastinated and it is past warranty although our extended would cover work on it. It is a Magic Chef.
Now the pilot will not light at all. I can turn the oven on to 300+ and light it that way but the pilot will not light. It does get dusty in there as I seldom use it thus the reason for it not being left lit.
Someone once posted how to clean the pilot light area but couldn't find the post.

When new, during our PDI, we noticed our oven pilot wouldn't light. Dealer ended up replacing the oven control knob and all the guts behind it (thermostat and pilot capillary tube). Didn't know why, perhaps teeny capillary tube was crushed somewhere. But that solved the problem. Pilot works now, but it sometimes a bit ornery to light.
