pace arrow

I have a 32' 1992 pace arrow motorhome that I have been having problems with keeping it running.runs fine when you first run it for 20 miles or so,then it starts to back fire & loses power.if you let it set for a day or two it runs for awhile then does the same thing.there's flames shooting out of tail pipe.I also have a problem with the new main battery going dead.

Sounds like your alternator isn't working and you're running the voltage low causing all the "fun".
Chances are that the alternator has gone bad.

Start by changing the fuel filter. It's probably tucked away somewhere on the frame, inline in the fuel line from tank to engine.

Sounds like an ignition timing problem. How many miles on the engine ? Check the timing.... and if its a high mileage engine, it could be time for a timing chain and sprockets.

I would agree with RVGuy. You could try replacing all the components inside the distributor. Unless your engine has a "ton: of miles on it the distributor is the likely cause of your issue

WELCOME to iRV2.com!

Changing the fuel filter is usually a good place to start , but you will likely get better answers if you tell us what chassis / motor you have.

Otherwise, everybody is just guessing.......

The low voltage could be the entire issue here. Affects EVERYTHING.

Also, if this is a Ford chassis, the fuel pumps on the 90's 460 Fords are notorious for low pressure when they get warm. Low fuel pressure on that chassis WILL cause backfiring and loss of power.

I agree, it would be easier, however.....the most prevalent would be Chevrolet. John Deere's with the 460 had fallen out of favor by then, and Ford wasn't building many F-53's, if they were even in production then. They became more prevalent post-'95. My money lies with it being a Chevy P-30. And either way, any advice given will be a help I'm sure. So which is it ?

Huh... I'd have put money on it being a Chevy. Well, I'm sure someone here who has or had a 460 can help you out. I've never owned one. I've had a couple Chevy's and a couple Foretravel diesels, so other than just general tune up advice or troubleshooting, I'm not familiar with the inherent workings of the 460's. Great engine though....
