Polishing aluminum wheels after Brillo

Yes, I did it......I mistakenly used Brillo to clean 2 of my once mirror-like shiny aluminum wheels. Short of getting new rims, is there a way to get my shine back?

Hi..
Yes, use some Mothers aluminum and mag wheel polish and a Power Ball on a cordless drill.. Not really all that difficult!

I would go to the Tiffin forum and look up "Cruzer" Mark Quasius. He has put several things on there about aluminum wheels.

At escapees.com/HDT forum, one of the members posted the recipe for making your own polishing compound(3 grades), and the directions for its use. He uses it to polish badly corroded aluminum rims on trucks he modifies to pull large 5ers.

I had mine done while visiting at Hearthside Motorcoach Resort......$20.00 a wheel I did them 4 years ago with Mothers and a power ball.......Quite the "black mess"
Sipped coffee, and watched this time.....
It might take quite a bit of buffing to remove the scratches the steel wool left.......

Most truck stops usually has a wheel polisher guy hanging around and you ca get them polished for 10 bux a wheel.

If you want to tackle the job yourself get some Jeweler's Rouge. Once you have brought your wheels back to life there is a product out there that you can either brush on or dip your wheels in (requires dismounting them) that leaves a protective film on them. Other than that you will have to polish them on a regular basis to keep the shine up.

if the wheels were clear anodized and you scratched them with Brillo you are pretty screwed. If you can feel the scratch with a fingernail it will take rouge and a buffer to get rid of it, but you'll have to polish off the anodize while you are at it, and then the wheels will need polishing at least a couple of times a year, especially if exposed to a lot of water.

Truck rims might not be anodized like car rims, don't know.

Hopefully they weren't plastic coated if not I think it will take a high speed air drill with a rag wheel start with a scratch removing ending with a polish.

Humm, just having bought a 2012 coach with Alcoa aluminum wheels, I was wondering what to use on them... They look very nice now after just washing and drying them. What do you use to keep them that way?

Depends on what wheels you have Alcoa Wheels North America -- Surface Options
You don't want to buff the dura bright wheels as they have a coating on them and require just washing with soap and water.
