Power gear hyd jack system
Hello,
I have been help greatly by IRV2 members in the past. Hopefully someone will have information on the following:
I have a burned out 12 volt electric motor on my PG 500348 unit. Does anyone know the manufacturer of the motor itself. Looks to me to be a standard DC motor that PG has used in the HYD pump assembly.
I intend to tear the the entire pump assembly down, and maybe I can find a part number.
Just asking in hope that someone has additional information.
Thanks,
JimB

Couldn't find any reference to your numbers in this service manual.

Jim:
I had problems with my PG Slide and found they had an excellent support web site. Suggest you go there and use the "system lookup" feature that displays all of their products on your coach. It provided the exact numbers for the systems used on my 09 Winn Journey. Certainly saved a lot of time and eliminated guessing. Not sure if yours would be there - if it isn't, you might consider looking up models shown on a similar vintage to get a better understanding of the model(s) that were in use the same year. Hope this helps and good luck tracking down the right motor.

Hi Jim, just a couple of questions if you please:
1. What makes you think you have burnt out the motor?
2. Have yo given any thought to taking it to a motor repair service for a rebuild?
3. Can you rebuild the motor yourself?
Reason I'm asking is on our past 1997 Discovery, the slide room was hydraulically operated. The electric motor on that pump would stop every once in a while. I would take it apart, clean the brushes, and all connectors, put it back together and it was good to go for another year or so. The problem with that motor was the placement of the pump. It was catching water and stuff thrown from the left front tire. I ended up building a cover for the pump and didn't have anymore troubles after that.
So I was thinking, maybe all you need to do is clean the brushes, and any relays it may have, and electrical connectors. These motors aren't used all that much so maybe a little cleaning of the electrical parts will fix your problem. Just a thought.
Also, how would you feel about a used pump and motor from a salvage yard? There are several RV salvage yards around this country.

Bidg9,
Thanks for the advice. So far I torn the PG pump down and taken the motor to a local starter, alternator service shop here in Tampa. I have used them in the past with good results. It looks like over the years(1999) water has gotten into the motor assembly and rotted out the ball bearing that carries the motor shaft to the hyd pump. The pump appears to be ok. The bearing froze and the motor overheated. Will see if the shop can great me a replacement. Will keep everyone advised on the progress.
Regards,
JimB

Good luck on the pump motor Jim. Please keep us posted so when it happen to us we will know where to go to get a replacement.
Its funny you posted about Power Gear problem. Right now I am waiting for the right rear Power Gear stabilizer jack to arrive to replace one that had the top 4 inches of the piston scored so bad that fluid just poured out. My guess is the previous owner tried to drive off with the jacks down. That one jack leg was $750!
