We use checklists for EVERYTHING. I tell my wife "If pilots can use checklists to get airplanes off the ground, we can use them to get our coach on the road!"

Regards.

"A Traveler" - THANK YOU - any chance of seeing the other 5 of them?

and Powerboatr - your posting reminds me of the photo of an RV park sign I found somewhere on the internet a while back... see below.

What did I forget to do?

Flat towing CRV and we are newby full timers. Got everything hooked up with emergency brake set, ran motor for a few minutes with transmission in drive, moved it to neutral, installed blue ox braking system, checked it to make sure it worked, checked brakes lights, turned off car, left ignition key in accessory mode, checked that steering wheel wasn’t locked. Took off.

I have two mental flows when hooking up our CRV. At the front there are 7 connections from left to right. Left tow arm pinned, left emergency cable, emergency breakaway cable, brake cable (ReadyBrute), lights harness, right emergency cable, and right tow arm pined.

Inside it 5 things left to right in an inverted "V". Emergency brake released , fuse switch off, sock on the steering wheel, key in ACC, and shifter in N.

All I have to do is look at the items and count them off. No checklist needed.

Same with the final walk around before leaving. I just make sure the only things connecting the coach to the ground are the tires. If so, everything else is put away.

I hang the bungee cord I use to help keep the drawers closed on the TV antenna crank so that it hangs down into the pax seat. That way it reminds me to check the antenna and bungee the drawers.

I'm a retired commercial pilot and I don't have paper checklists. Every pilot has missed some item on some checklist.

One of the things we do when towing our Jeep is to be sure it’s actually set up right and the parking brake is released. Wife gets in the coach and starts it and moves forward a couple of feet. Just enough for me to see the tires on the Jeep turning freely. Then I know I’m good to go.

On a Honda CR-V if you follow the tow procedure printed in the manual it would be impossible to leave the shift in any other position than N. That being said, wife always stands beside the Honda and watches as I pull forward 10 ft or so to make sure all wheels are turning.

I don't know that I've ever engaged the parking brake on the Honda.

One time though we pulled into a campsite, parked beside the office and DW went to check in and I started to unhook the Honda. I always put the Honda in park before unhooking so it doesn't roll forward. Before I started unhooking she came out and said it's a pull though no need to unhook. I started walking back to the coach and got half way before I remembered I had put the Honda in Park.

Stuff happens especially with an aging memory.

Kind of a deceiving question... My preflight checklist really includes everything.
I think I'll answer in the form of "what are the LAST 3 things before pulling out" ..
3. Complete walk around..check all basement doors , visually inspect tires (pressures checked during pack up) , toad connections, lights check ,jacks up... etc
2. Inside.. cabin doors locked and secure , passengers in their seats and a verbal "is everyone ready? " check ..
3 . Dash check.. all gauges, phone synced , GPS all set , volume check ..
Off we go!!!

Thanks for sharing you list, A Traveler. I like it but am confused by one on the list. To what do you refer when you list "Store the Globe?" Portable satellite dome?

My wife prepares the inside, retracts the sliders and secures loose items while I disconnect sewer, water, and electrical. Finally, walk around for anything I may have missed while checking and locking hatches.

LOL! A good question. I can see where that doesn’t make any sense.

Shortly after we bought the motor home our three grandchildren gave us a small globe with a plaque on the base which says, “Wherever you go, we will always be in your hearts. Matthew, Nathaniel and Kathryn”

Everywhere we go, we set it on the credenza in the same place and take a photo out the window. We store the globe in a cabinet during travel to protect it.

I am still finalizing the Pre-Trip Planning checklist, so I did not include it here.

This is an IPad app called “Checklists: To Do & Task Lists” from checklist.com. I take the IPad and walk around with it in hand, running the checklist as I go.
No, I don’t work for the company. [emoji6]
