Pre-wired satellite
Hey I need some help.
I just bought a new to us motorhome and I want to put a dish on the roof. What dish do you need to buy so you don't have to run all new cables and can use the factory installed ones.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Someone can help if you can specify the brand, model and year of your motorhome as well as what type of antenna you are trying to install. Every manufacturer is different so giving some more info on what type of wiring your currently have would help.

The motorhome is a 2008 Holiday Rambler Ambassador. I am not sure what satellite to buy so need some direction. Whatever it is will need to work with Bell as that is my current provider.
Thanks

Once again, do you already have wiring installed for a satellite antenna and if so what type? Different antennas require different wiring so we can't answer your questions unless we know what you currently have. IF you don't have any wiring already, then you can install any antenna with its required wiring. A triple LNB antenna like the Trav'ler will give best reception while a dome antenna may be the most convenient to install.

My 2019 Entegra Esteem was advertised as Satellite ready. What this meant was the TVs were cabled to a port in a compartment. I could have bought a portable dish and connected it to the port.
I wanted to mount mine on the roof and there was no cabling there for that which necessitated running cable to the Hopper. I bought a Winegard Travl’r and had it all installed by a competent satellite technician. I now have HDTV on all 3 TVs and to activate the switch, I just push a single button. Within 5 minutes (usually less) I am hooked up and watching.

I would not waste the money. Here is why. Directv is on the brink of not supporting satellite tv, leaving DISH. I found a mounted dish was troublesome when camped in a site with lots of trees. Hard to get a good signal. The solution is the DISH network portable satellite dish and receiver package for a little less than $300. You have a greater freedom for locating the dish in a good place. I know because I spent a fortune trying to get satellite tv.

Direct is trending toward streaming rather than broadcast tv for content, but they don't seem to be getting away from satellite service. However, existing receivers may become obsolete as this happens. Direct is also changing what is transmitted from some of its satellites.

I agree with the suggestion of a portable tailgater my Motorhome came with an obsolete roof mounted unit that was missing parts. I purchased a king dish tailgater it comes with a 50’ length of coax cable which isn’t long enough at times and will need another 50’ length. 50% of the time I need to try to find a clear spot between trees to get a signal even if it is only 1 satellite. The big roof units are better but not always usable .
