Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C Error Code

I installed the Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C the morning, but was getting an E-9 error code. I know this is a data link error, but what exactly does that mean; I can't find reference to it anywhere on the web. The display box lights up, so I know its connected and the unit allows power through, so I'm at a loss right now.

And P.S., they no longer have 24hr tech support since Apr when the company was bought out...

You have the remote display? Try unplugging the data cable from both the EMS and the remote display and plugging them in again. If that fails to clear the error #9, try using the EMS without the remote display until you can contact tech support.

If you are running an inverter Generator some of the Generator makes will produce an “E9” code. PI told me it was a non-issue as it reverts to normal operation as soon as you plug into clean 120v. I get E9 when ever I am running get the Gen so I shut the surge protector off.

I think that would only apply if the surge protector was installed AFTER the ATS. For the most part I think that they normally install it before the ATS off the shore power cables.

My first coach it was after the ATS and my current coach is before it. I kinda miss having the read out provide me information when on the generator. However, I never saw the E9 code on the first coach running the generator.

Progressive Industries recommends it be installed before the ATS see post #1 in this thread. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f54/surge...ts-298397.html

Per Installation/Operation Manual (pg.7)

3. You may notice when first plugging in that the display may read E-9.

Don’t worry about this, it only means that the display has not received data from the computer yet.

By the next time through it should read E-0 if the A/C power is normal.
