I have been looking for a Pyrometer for the new diesel coach, the problem is that all the kits I have found state that they come with a 6' - 12' harness and the harness cannot be modified for longer length with out screwing up the calibration. True or False ? Can a harness be made to 40" and calibrated? They say the wire is special wire for pyrometer use. Help !

I can't help you on the pyrometer extension cable as I struck out when I was looking for a pyrometer for our pusher too. As an option though you may want to consider monitoring the engines Intake Manifold Temperature.

I use the Silverleaf system since it displays all the engine parameters that are communicated through the diagnostic ports. The Intake Manifold Temperature, Turbo Boost Pressure, and Coolant Temperature are all parameters I monitor. Admittedly, I monitor them more for curiousity than concern, but I just believe in knowing how hard the engine is working.

The intake manifold temperature rises proportionally with the EGT as the compression of air by the turbo allows more fuel to be burnt which raises the EGT. As the intake air is compressed for longer perioids of time, the IMT rises accordingly. After a long hard pull, the IMT temperature slowly decreases as does the EGT. Although they are not exactly correlated, monitoring IMT for cooling before shutdown does let you be informed to turbo temperatures.

This site might help you find your pyrometer cable answer. They have a "contact us" button on their website. I have bought "Isspro" gauges from them including a pyrometer for the truck and they have a great customer service dept. that will try and answer any question. Link follows:

Thanks very much Bob. I contacted them this morning, problem solved, and then some.

This is another example of why IRV2 is the best.
