Recent cost to re-seal your roof by an RV tech/shop???

Hi All,

I'm curious to know how much people are paying THESE DAYS to have their roof resealed professionally on their RVs or trailers. I'm not talking about Do It Yourself....I'm talking about taking it to your local RV repair shop (or mobile technician) and having them do the work.

If you respond, please include the following:

- When was the work done?
- What state was the work done in?
- What type/year RV, trailer, etc?
- What type of roof do you have? (EPDM? TPO?)
- Did they just reseal, or did they have to repair damage?
- What product did they use? (ie. Dicor? Henry's? Heng's? Crazy Seal? something else? etc)

You can give the total price and/or a total breakdown on cost if you want.

If you want to include pictures, here is a convenient website to use for converting your jpg photos to a postable link in these forums:

Keeping water OUT should be a huge priority on your RV/trailer!

Happy Camping!
Chris

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but might be marginally helpful. I recently received a quote from an awesome, yet reasonably priced, tech that I use: $350 + materials to pressure wash, inspect, seal and apply UV protectant to the rubber roof of my 36' Class A motorhome. That's in south-central PA. Others in the area wanted even more for less.

Truth is, that motivated me to get back up on the roof and do it myself.

Thanks,
Paul

I resealed my Winnebago roof myself. 1-2 days to get the old caulk off. About a day to recaulk. Removing the caulk on a Winnebago roof is a bunch of work.

Sun roofs were removed and resealed.

Caulk alone probably ran $150.

Figure 20 hours plus materials. So, if I paid someone, maybe $2000 to do it right.

Now, just slapping some superficial caulk on, I can see that being below $300…

Maybe I went too far with my preparation, but spent 5 hours cleaning the old dicor with parts cleaner before the 4 hours of new dicor application. I used just over two tubes of self leveling sealant.

Your cost may be more dependent on technique than parts.

I believe dicor is cleaned with denatured alcohol. Softens, cleans and somewhat melts it together when cracked.

I learned about using parts cleaner on a Todd's Two Minute Tech Tips. It worked better than alcohol, at least for me...

We had ours done by RV-Armor earlier this year - they charged us $150 per foot for the job.

$6000 to reseal a 40ft rv???

What they do is remove as much of the old sealant as possible, scrub the roof to get it real clean, then apply a 2-part covering over the entire roof. It takes 2-3 days to complete the job and you end up with a nice looking roof with no need for regular resealing ever again, unless you add something to the roof. They have a pretty nice video on their website showing what they do, and how their product works. We're happy with the result - we have friends who had their roof redone with a fresh layer of EPDM and they still had to get up their regularly and reseal seams, etc. and it cost them about as much as we paid.

Given the products SJ-Chris named, I'm guessing he means "re-coat" rather than just re-sealing seams and openings. My first question would be does the entire roof need coating or does it only need to be cleaned and the seams touched up? BIG difference! And if he has a fiberglass, aluminum or even a TPO roof, there should be little reason to re-coat it with the products he named.

$100-$150 per foot is probably the going range for a quality re-coating, where everything is removed, the roof properly prepped, and an top-coat applied. But if you only need a good cleaning (for cosmetic reasons) and the seams and opens sealed up, that job is worth $300-$500 but RV dealer shops are known to charge $1000 or more.

I have heard prices all over,, Some high end coatings 4-6K to seal /coat a roof..

$1500 to just rechaulk,, my own done at a dealer in Virginia by previous owner,, Pull AC, replace seal.. Clean and Chalk all seems.. Roof is Winnebago Fiberon stuff.. this was done in 2013,, urgh,,

I did a roof as a side gig for a guy who say mine after I did the entire thing over,, I used Tropilcal Cool,, yeah yeah silicone based,, but I will use silicone to recoat and repair,, each his own..
On to the guys I did, 24 foot winnie,, I used an acrylic/rubber based on the Fiberon roof.
I did pull his AC, changed a bathroom vent. First scrub wash, power wash. DRY for a day, Did removals. RE chaulked, sealed bad stuff, had to eternabond to cracks and inject epoxy in 2 soft spots.. LET dry over night..
5 am start, first coat on by 10 am. let dry up till 3ish,, second good coat...
4th day reset AC, added vents covers,.rewashed the outside etc,,
Apply camper I charged him $2100.. Had around 800 in all the stuff inc vent and covers.
this was during covid summer..

To re-seal my previous 27ft Class C, which entailed removal of all caulking, cleaning and re-caulk on all sides and roof three years ago was ~$4000 by a reputable RV repair company in Washington State. It was a fiberglass Filon blanket material I believe. They did a great job but I think it was pricey. I had another local company do the roof only, previously for ~$1500. My newest 31 ft Class A, I paid an RV technician, as a side job. $500 and he sealed all
areas needing sealed, washed it and maintenance outside components.

Just my opinion here. First, I think this is a DIY task, unless someone physically cannot do it, or simply doesn't want to. Secondly, if someone is really concerned about keeping water out the first step would be to find someone that does Sealtech leak testing. Water can enter in more places than just the roof. For some of the prices posted here I would be asking if it was pressure tested by a Sealtech dealer.
