Recoating fiberglass roof

I have a 2005 Heritage that needs to have the roof recoated as I am experiencing a lot of streaking on the sides of my rig. I am trying to decide between using the Dicor product for fiberglass roofs or an epoxy single component boat deck paint. Any feed back to help with my decision would be appreciated.

Power wash, Compound and wax the top. I wouldn't top coat a gel coat or painted roof.

Not what you asked, but I have had great luck with high quality floor wax after a pressure wash. Commercial acrylic floor wax from Amazon, mop on two coats, and it lasts all season.

When it comes time to repaint my roof - I plan to use a marine-grade polyurethane. This "Yacht Coating" is a 2K paint system https://www.alexseal.com/exterior/to...um-topcoat-501

This stuff is tough enough for marine (salt water environment) use, and can be rolled or brushed. It's highly UV resistant. There are cheaper products out there, but for the amount of cleaning and prep work and labor put into a job like this, I'd rather not use the cheaper products to save a dollar or two, and have to redo the job every five or so years. It costs around $100 for the base and another $25 for the hardener and reducer.

Here'r a YouTube on it (from TotalBoatWorks)

Have you tried cleaning and putting 303 on it?

I went thru the same decision process with my '04 and ended up with the Dicor. I thoroughly disagree with those who advise against re-painting a painted fiberglass roof. Can't imagine why they would be so reluctant!

I always cleaned mine regularly but eventually the paint on the roof began to chalk and streak. I tried waxing it but it only lasted 3-6 weeks at a time, so I decided to re-paint. It turned out to be a rather easy job. I did NOT use Dicor's clean & prep product - way too much work when the roof is in good condition except for chalking. Instead, I washed it as usual and then applied liquid sandpaper to clean & soften the old paint. That's easy - just wipe on with a cloth. Then I masked the edges and painted with a brush (two coats). Looked great and lasted well.

And you still need to do all of the prep work. Light sanding, wipe down with a tack cloth and then rags soaked in acetone. Then paint !

I did what veraken has pointed you to a couple years ago. Highly recommend this product. To this day it still looks like I did it last week and the best part is I don’t have to keep going on the roof to reapply a product. I used a bit less than 2qts on a 41 ft roof applying 2 coats. No more white streaks and the roof stays very clean.

Why be so reluctant? Because it's not needed. If paint was an answer for any form of deterioration, or chalking, or wear, or whatever, it would have been installed at the factory. And, the argument against the labor that's needed to actually clean and wax a fiberglass roof to preserve it, doesn't hold water either. I mean, if you're gonna do anywhere near a decent job of prep for PAINT, then you're up there putting LABOR into/onto that roof anyways. And, a good wax job, even on an every other year basis is quite sufficient. Our coach is now 15 years old and I've waxed that roof ONE TIME, about 6-7 years ago and it still has a shine to it and, has ZERO CHALKING AND ZERO STREAKS, when it rains or I wash it.

Then why is it sold for boats? I'm guessing the gel coat for an RV roof isn't much different than a boat. Here in NM the sun does a number on pretty much everything. Wax doesn't hurt but it doesn't last either.

Don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it. The Rustoleum Deck Over paint is an amazing product
