I have a 1994 Scenic Cruiser. There are three panels inside the coach with "Gen Set" and a red light on each. These are supposed to start and stop the generator. I have a Gen Set 6.6kw generator. Any idea why these remote switches will not start or stop my generator? Thanks for any help you can give. Ken

Ken & Faye, welcome to our website and froum. You should have a remote control cable from thses switches that plugs into the side of the generator. Is the generator a generac or Onan? There is a quick connection with a few wires that may have come unplugged or you have lost a ground on these control wiring circuits.
We are looking forward to reading of your adventures & experiences here on the forum. If there is anything that I might be able to help you with just ask.

Mike, Thanks. I have a Generac. There are two sets of wires going to the generator. One set goes to the "intellitec" module and the other set of four wires goes into the generator itself. The three control modules in the coach have three switches each. one says "front ac", one says "rear ac" and the other says "Gen Set". All three switches have red lights. The "Gen Set" switch's red light is on but sometimes it is dim and sometimes it is bright. Once about a week ago, after trying several times to start the generator from one of these three modules, it started OK and worked for a couple of days. Then it would not start or stop the generator anymore. It sounds like a "short" or a loose connection. Do you think the three "intellitec" modules in the coach are connected to the "intellitec" module at the generator? Also, what would your opinion be about the four wires running into the side of the generator. They are small (about 12-14 gauge) wires. The "intellitec" module at the generator has several wires, about 8-10 total and they too are small, about 14-16 gauge. I really appreciate your help. Ken

Ken, the small gage wires going into the side of the generator are the control wires fromt the various switch locations inside. It does sound like you have some loose connections. If you had a shorted circuit then it would blow a fuse or trip a dc circuit breaker. Can you get me the number or discription off the intellitec next to the generator? I can look up what it is you have and can better help you with your problem. The generator should be wired so that it starts off the house battery bank. If this is low and you are not plugged into shore power this could be a source of some generator problems but I doubt so right now. Make sure the wires going into the side of the generator and intellitec are making a good connection for now; try it and let me know what if anything has changed.

Mike, Your comment about a loose ground wire got me to thinking. I remembered that sometimes the red light on the control panel inside the coach would be dim and other times it would be bright. That indicates a loose ground wire. When I was looking at the "intellitec" box to respond to your second question, I noticed the white ground wire on the "intellitec" plug was sticking out more than the others. I pulled it out and found it was not making contact. I secured it and reinserted the plug into the "intellitec" and everything works great now. THANK YOU for your help and if it acts up again, I'll give you another call. BTW, If you have any information about "intellitec" that explains what functions it performs, I would really like to see it. I like to know what various things are suppose to do. Thanks again for the help. Ken
