Removing carburator off a 4000 onan

Just purchased a 96' Winnebago Itasca Spirit with 24,000 miles on it. With the exception of a window leak, non-working fridge and generator (4000 Onan Microlite) problems, the coach is in great shape. The generator has only 65 hours on it (good and bad). I have replaced the spark plug and the generator will start for a few seconds, but then it revs up very high and quits. Any suggestions?

Is it possible to get the carburator out without removing the generator from the coach? I have access to the front of the generator only. Does anyone have "step by step" instructions on how to remove the carburator from this type of generator so that I can either clean it or replace it?

Also, any thoughts on why the fridge may not work after such a long period of non-use? Thanks! Ann

Ann - the closest thing i've seen to 'stepXstep' instructions is the SERVICE MANUAL. It will have a bunch of in-depth info on most aspects of the genny, but it is written for service mechanics to use on the job. That does not mean it's way over your head, but it can be involved. Unfortunately, the part of that book that I needed was not super helpful. In any case, for $20 it's a very good investment. Call your localOnan/Cummins dealer and order one. While you're on the phone, ask the nice man your question, and you just might luck out. Before you call, jot down the 3 letter code on the little nameplate and the SERIES letter. The might need this to get the right book. If possible, call from a cordless phone standing right next to the genny.
