Repairing Fiberglass Body?
Friends,
I made a small (inch square) scrape/ding in my white fb wall by the rear wheel. Any ideas on repairing? It did not go too deep. Is there a "bondo" like product for small fg repairs?
Thanks in advance
Dave

Yes - look at the bodywork section at your Auto parts store. They have special products for fiberglass.

Yup, Bondo, they have kits a Walmart and auto stores.
Do a search and watch Youtube videos. Painting will be the trick.

Dave, Years ago I bought a white fiberglass boat that had a few minor blemishes that needed repaired. A friend recommended Marine-Tex was pure white. I found it at a marine supply store. Its a little pricey compared to bondo but worked great for me. I was careful not to overfill the damaged area so excessive sanding was necessary. I used very fine sand paper and then fine white polishing compound to finish the repair, not perfect but most people would never notice. Mixes like bondo.

Ditto on the Marine-Tex.
Easy to mix and use. Sets up hard in 2-3 hours. Sands easy. White-White.
Abit expensive.

I too can say Marine Tex is good stuff. Think of it as white JB Weld. Also for just about anything fiberglass check out Jamestown Distributors , while its primarily marine oriented, they have fiberglass work/repair stuff galore. And lots of great how to videos.

Great, thanks. This takes me back about 50 years to my early car repair days!

You might also be able to use a gel coat repair kit if the damage isn't too deep. Molded body panels usually have a gel coat finish, even if painted afterwards. Marine stores/websites usually have them.

I seem to remember that Marine Tex is not paintable?
So if paint is desired one could stay with bondo.
I have repaired my painted bumper with Bondo about 8 years ago after my boat tried to pass my coach.

They make plastic spot filler 90% the same as bondo. It's finer, thinner, and adheres better to surface more lightly sanded surface. Regular and cheaper bondo will want to peel away from surface while sanding that's not really roughed up.
Some pics would help others determine best course of action and product to use.
