Repairing stairwell step floor

Hi all,

The bottom step on my entry stair well is after coming away from the frame, if I push the step from underneath is goes back in place.

This is not the retractable step but a stair well step, the retractable step is mounted to this step. The osb looks to be in good condition.

I will be at the dealer on Friday and will ask them to check it out.

Has anyone had this issue before?

The coach is a 2005 Damon Daybreak.

Thanks,

Let us know what the dealer says. Could be a number of things including decomposing flakeboard.

I spoke with Thor support. They recommended using one inch thick angle iron as a brace under the step and then seal it with silicone.

Got under the coach while ago, it's not as bad as it seems. Could not get a photo though, will try to explain what's going on in case it happens to someone else.

The step sits in a metal frame and the plywood (or whatever the step is made of) has come apart from the step above, I can see all the screws on the bottom of the door lintel are
Not screwed in to anything. The wood looks to be in good condition.

I spoke to the dealer and they reckoned it's an easy and quick fix.

Your doorway and steps looks exactly like the one in My Coachmen Mirada. I have no problem believing that the screws go into nothing considering what I have experienced. I have a lot of expreience fixing stuff like that. . Not knowing exactly where hand how those screws missed I, myself might try some of these things.

If the screws missed going into the wood on the outside I would drill new holes and put in stainless steel screws correctly after adding waterproof glue or 3M 5200 between the wood parts. I would do this from the outside to avoid pulling up carpet.

If it fits I would consider screwing in a few angle irons where it is not holding. I would put glue on it and on the angle irons. I would test fit it first though. Possibly a one inch, right angle steel channel would work better especially if it was filled with 5200 first.

If space allows sometimes fiberglass and epoxy can be used to effect a permanent repair.

Note on the 3M 5200- The saying in the boat worls is to only use 5200 if you never want to take it apart again. It may take a week to dry in a thick layer but it is the strongest thing in the known world. It is like caulk and it will get on you and never come off so use gloves.

That's great Kahoona, all great information.

Thinking about it is I think this is a gradual issue.

I will see what the dealer reckons,.

Repair was 108$ which included fitting a new storage door catch.

The repair looks very good.
