Roof Cleaned

The MH has over 17,000 miles on it already. When it's home, it's parked under a tree. So even though I've cleaned the roof many times already, it's always looking dingy.

So this time I cleaned it with dawn and barkeepers friend. Scrubbed the grunged off the dicor. Then put 4 coats of Zep on it. Took about 10 hours. Hope that it's easier to keep clean now.

Needed to share this with those who can appreciate!

Even though the coach is fairly new, that came out nice! Mine is the same year and it's amazing how dirty they get.

Just search for Zep on this forum - there's a long history of using it. I used it on every surface of our old MH. Not brave enough for that on this new one but the roof is a different story.

What goes on top runs down the sides. Dawn is an excellent cleaner but it also the best thing you can use to strip the wax off anything. I've run into the same issue and cleaned the roof with whatever would clean it but spent 2 days waxing the coach afterwards which isn't fun. Next time I clean the roof (which is about 2 times a year) I will use an auto car wash and not worry about it being as white as my new underwear.

Hdzcar that's what i was doing. Washing it with the blue stuff fom walmart (has wax in it) every now and then. Problem is mold was growing on it anyway and the car wash wouldn't get it off. Also was getting black streaks where water runs off the roof. Hoping this treatment fixes both issues.

I rinse the loose dirt off after every trip or periodically, if it is sitting for a long time during the summer. Use Wash and Wax and soft brush on extension several times during the summer. The less that accumulates the easier it is to clean. technician just apply lap seal, so I have to wait a week or so, until it is thoroughly set, before I wash it (foot prints etc). My challenge if finding a safe method for getting on and off of the roof (8 ft ladder, 10ft roof, uneven driveway surface). will try anchoring ladder to MH over the roof so it cannot push out from under me when getting off of the roof.

Any good detergent and some bleach, combined with a medium bristle brush, should clean up a rubber roof quickly and easily. Often you need something to cut the mold, and a good dose of bleach does that. And no, it won'thurt the EPDM a bit (Dicor recommends bleach for that situation).

ZEP, or most any other floor wax, will help it shed dirt for awhile, but an EPDM roof chalks and the wax flakes off with the chalky powder.

Amen to what everybody says about the detergent & cleaner running down the sides. Rinse the roof slop away as soon as you can to reduce streaking. Clean the roof first, then wash and wax the sides after.

Used bleach once on previous coach. Despite being very careful not to let any of the mix go over the sides, it did. Washed coach with soap and water but those drips still showed years later the day I traded the coach in. I washed, waxed, used several new products and rubbed a lot, but never got rid of those little 'trails'. I would be very wary using bleach on the roof.
