satellite tv receiver connect problems

I purchased a used mh with a KVH roof mounted dish....seems to be working fine...I recently purchased a Dish Network ViP 211k receiver from Camping World...Have hooked them up, three wires...HDML from rcvr to tv, coax. from dish to rcvr..and power cord...waited for about 20 mins. for things to connect ...didn't happen..( also contacted dish to connect, with an rv plan ) Then contacted a tech from Dish Net. finally he suggested contacting a local Dish Tech ( 75 miles away ) or taking the rcvr back to Camping World to have them program it. Not sure why..dish network system, dish network rcvr...should be already programmed I would think...anyway, CW is 60 miles away....anyway have any suggestions before I spend all day and 120 rt miles taking it back to a newly opened Camping World who may not know what the heck I'm talking about ? Thanks so much ( I am a very inexperienced electronics person so please make things simple..thanks again....

Depending on what you have for a rooftop unit. You may need to change the dip switches on that. On my inmotion unit I have two settings, one for Dish & one for Direct. The switches are under the cover of your satellite.

Also you may need to run your reset which is the Check Switch option of the set up program of your receiver. On mine if I want to use it in the house it has to be reset for the house. Then if I put it in the MH I have to do a Check Switch again to mate up with the new set up.

Like previous post if you had direct tv and going to dish your dome has to be programmed it should be in your manual.

1. KVH antennas do not have dip switches, they are firmware programmed.

2. What model KVH antenna do you have?

3. When you connect the receiver and turn it on can you hear the antenna trying to locate a sat ?

thanks for everyone's help....
IIIKROB......as far as I can see....its a KVH TracVision R4SL..model...and yes, we can hear something happening on the roof when we first hook it up and its in step 2 of programming...where the green line takes about 15 to 25 mins. to move across the screen...( says status: installing switch ) that seems to be as far as it goes...we never get to step 3 of 5...

The KVH R4SL requires a module, called a Service Key, to be inserted in the controller to change from DirectTV to Dish.

You can download the R4SL Configuration manual here:
www.kvh.com/ViewAttachment.aspx?guidID={1F684952-2F16-45EF-ABE9-0A08D3FBCA04}

You have to have a logon at the kvh site to do that, but its free.

You do not need the service keys just yet, The R4SL will recognize your Dish receiver.

Have you performed "check switch"? If not use the remote to select the following: MENU then the number 6 then 1 then 1.
