Securing ladder to rear attached ladder

Hi all, I have an 8 ft ladder I would like to lug around with me. Either I can put it on top of the CR-V toad or attach to the rear ladder on my rig.

Suggestions for attaching and securing so it doesn't:
A) Fall off
B) rattle or rub things the wrong way
C) Not grow feet and wander off

Thanks

I hang my small step ladder on coach ladder with bungee cords. I check the cords occasionally to make sure they not suffering from sun rot.

In 17 years haven's had one walk off yet..

Best of luck & Safe Travels......

We have a 6' ladder on our ladder. I got this from Camping World
Over-the-Ladder Chair and Bike Rack - Camco 51490 - Bike Racks - Camping World
then I got a swimming pool Noodle and place it over the MH step so it would not rub,
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Oodles-of...-USA/977396329
then used 2 bungee cords hooked back into each other to hold it in place like this one

Going on 3 years now, works great.

I carry mine on a bike rack and lock it along with the bikes.

Second the chair rack commented above. Simple and inexpensive. I use one to carry a blue boy.

Here is a thought. I have this collapsible ladder that is 7' tall. It's very sturdy and tested by me to 300 pounds. I mounted a square pvc fencepost tube from Lowes in my pass thru bay, high up on the wall. The ladder slides in and out and I don't have to move anything to get it out.

I saw where a dealer recommended not to travel with things (ladders, bicycles and etc) due that it will loosen the anchor screws of the attached ladder. I checked with my own dealer maintenance department agreed as well. I used to carry my extra ladder that way, now I have never seen a RV ladder laying on the side of the road.

I have used the chair rack described above for hauling several different types of items. One thing I do with anything I put back there is I zip strip everything to keep them from bouncing or moving.

The "Little Giant" is both a A-frame and extention ladder in one that is stowable.

It gives you the best of both worlds and you can purchase the standing platform as an accessory for added safety as well.

For some reason, when I see a coach going down the road with a ladder on the back, I can't help but envision the opening scene of the old television series "The Beverly Hillbillies"

Some find it unsightly to hang a ladder from their RV ladder, but some of us find it a necessity. When you need an 8' ladder that doesn't weigh a ton, and is stable without leaning it on the RV, an 8' aluminum step ladder is often the best option. I need something that allows me to reach the edge of the roof without having to stand on the top rung of my ladder, and an 8' step ladder is the answer.

I use the chair rack, and a bungee cord. Many miles without damage to the RV ladder or loss of the hanging step ladder. No one has attempted to steal the ladder in many years of travel.

IMO you need to do what you need to do.

The previous owner of our 5th wheel had placed too much weight on the ladder. As previously mentioned the ladder anchors all became extremely lose and that had to be repaired by a dealer. Now I can climb that crazy ladder with added confidence. Static weight of anything is much less than "live" weight when you put the RV in motion. It's weight can then be doubled so just keep it as light a weight as you can be safe on for stability.

I carry a 7' collapsible ladder inside a 4" fence post, started doing that back before we got the '02 DSDP. I also have a 15' collapsible one as the 7' is too short to get on the roof.

I've seen multiple posts where people mounted the 4 or 5 inch pvc fence post under the RV just ahead of the axle. Storage for ladders, sewer hose, fishing rods, erc.
