Semi sideswiped mirror on friends Foretravel

While driving down the construction on 77 from houston to harlingen tx a semi driver did not pay attention to where his trailer was going when he had to do one of the lane moves. He put middle of the side of trailer into pass mirror on 45 foretravel and ripped it off the front of the rig.

It may be interesting to watch the dash camera footage. I will be interested in what they will charge for a complete new mirror with turn signal and elect adjustments from the factory.

Proves we have to watch that current drivers do not have skill set that us "old had a cdl for 35 years or more drivers do".

I make cars mad by putting on flashers slowing down and not running along side rigs that do not look like they can stay in the white lines.

Do you know what brand of mirror it is? Parts & prices for Velvac and Ramco mirrors are available on their websites.

Ha ,,,, I don't care who get's mad at me!

Ever see how well a semi with triples can stay in their lane, in a corner ?
My rule, only pass a truck with triples on a straight stretch.

Truck drivers of today (note that I did not use the word “professional“) are no longer the “Knights of the Road” that they once were. They are not properly trained and they have no sense of how to be “professional” in their craft. And they don’t care. They have become the bottom of the barrel in the hierarchy of drivers on the road.

I always fuel at truck stops. On many occasions I have sat and watched as one of these trailer-jockeys tries to back into a parking spot. I watch amused as three, four and sometimes FIVE attempts are made before the “driver” manages to get backed into a spot. Pathetic.

They tailgate, speed, don’t pay attention, make quick and dangerous lane changes because they are not looking ahead and generally drive like idiots. And they dress like slobs.

I have ZERO respect for today’s truck drivers.

The demand for truck driver's has exceeded the ability of most trucking companies to recruit and hire trained, qualified and competent individuals and it shows out there on the road.

My recent venture over Monteagle Mountain in Tennessee (I-24) was a stark reminder as I watched a number of trucks going way too fast on the steep and sweeping descent despite a horrific and well publized fatality a day earlier when an 18 wheeler overturned off the side of the mountain.....sad.

On rare occasion at the Pilot or Flying J, I still see some companies post the name of the "Professional" driver on the cab of the rig and denote the number of years or miles of driving without an accident, but they are few and far between.

As a kid, I still have the memories of the truck drivers with their cowboy or baseball cap, nice flannel shirt, blue jeans with large shiny belt buckle and cowboy boots and just as polite and gracious as could be. How things have changed.

That's true, but there are also lots of RV drivers, not RV operators.

Do we have any dash cam footage ?

Different circumstances but my passenger side mirror and a truck mirror banged together going through downtown St Louis. It didn't break anything but knocked all 3 mirrors out of the housing where they dangled by the heater wires. I was able to pop them back in place.

I switched the monitor to the side camera and used that until I could get off the highway.

I've had both rearview, heated, motorized, multi-mirrored units replaced; @ $1,4xx ea.+ labor.

I agree with 96 wideglide, never run alongside a semi-truck. If either of you must dodge road debris, have a tire failure, encounter a sudden cross-wind, etc. neither of you have room to maneuver.

Ray, How difficult were these to re-trofit?? I know that our original mirrors are virtually impossible to get a replacement for.

From my fuel pump discussions when traveling professional drivers are just as annoyed, if not more so, with the others as they are with us. It’s very much a drive defensive world out there.

AZ Hwy 260 from I-17 to Cottonwood has been redone.....2 lanes both directions with 7 'roundabouts'

Course the roundabouts are double lane and NOT sufficient size to allow longbed trucks thru w/o crossing over the lane lines....semis just drive over the inside curbing/across the pretty concrete.
Engineers knew that the roundabouts where to small cause the inside pretty concrete was poured THICK...like 24" thick

Project should be wrapping up within the month so if traveling between I-17/Cottonwood or vice versa do NOT attempt the roundabouts alongside a longbed pickup truck, a delivery truck, a semi etc.

Not always the 'operators' fault..........
