shift inhibit indicator?

please help, this am started RV to take in for inspection and propane tank fill. the shift inhibit light was lit and would not shift into any gear. after some time of looking into the owners manual and not finding any write-ups on this light i turned the rv off and restarted the rv. problem solved, but i still want to know what was going on and how to remidy the problem.

thanks

Depends on what transmission we are talking about, but if it's an Allison one of the common reasons is that the RPMs are too high for safe shifting. For example, most of them won't move from Neutral to Drive at rpms over 900.

I was just reading the book on this in prep of a transmission service. Seems the biggest thing is the RPM's and after shutdown they will reset (as yours did). Not to worry, just wait for the warmup RPM ramp to settle before shifting into gear.
