Shop Rates
Had my AC serviced at my usual truck center in town. The shop rate is $195/hour
Last year it was $140/150 if memory serves. Curious if that is in line with what others are seeing.

It depends on the location and the shop. I pay $150/hr at my shop in San Antonio. That’s up from $125 a year ago.

My mechanic, who I have been with for years, was $95/hr in the past. He raised his rate to $110.
They are charging what the market will bear. High? Most likely but you can do that when there's a shortage of RV mechanics and they are backed up months with service work.

Labor rates have been discussed many times. IMO labor rates are reasonable with all the electronics involved, EPA required equipment to maintain, and federal, state, and local laws governing how work is to be performed and when.
For instance, a shop simply replacing a part must calculate in the cost of doing and staying in business on top of the part cost, cost of getting the new part into the shop, labor and benefits for said worker, and the list continues.

x2.
My shop is $135/hr and he has a TON of expensive equipment that was an initial outlay and investment. Sure it gets paid off eventually but then it is time to upgrade so the cycle repeats...

Get a firm grip on your wallet, that $195 rate will be $225 after the first of the year.

I just got my motorhome back from some maintenance and minor repairs from a local shop. The last time I had it in their shop was almost two years ago and the shop rate was $139 an hour. Now, it's $179 a hour. Was a little surprised when I got the bill but they are honest and do good work.

WHAT city/state, and what are COMPETING shops charging? Been a year/two since I went to a shop, but they were closer to $100/hr, I think?

I think rates in the upper 100’s have become the norm.

Local place around here is $149.00 per hour (unless it's gone up the last couple of months) Seems high and it is but...my local hardware store several years ago wanted 70.00 bucks an hour to work on small engines-yard equipment etc..
