I have a 2012 Fleetwood Providence. The last three times we have camped with the bus plugged in to 50 amp shore power after running fine most all day we have lost power to the coach. Usually this has happened late in th evening or after dark a few times. It has a light in the plug handle that shows that the power is still on at the plug. Yesterday I went out and unplugged the power cable for a couple of minutes then plugged it back in and the power came back on. Any ideas? Sounds like maybe when I unplugged it something reset ? If so what and where?

Was the light on before you unplugged? If so, it's a problem in the coach, if not then the park. Aside from this there's not a lot to go on. I'm assuming you hadn't overloaded anything and also that it's a total loss of power to both legs of your service. It could be the ems trying to manage something or it's defective. Try to determine some comonality in the coach before it happens again- this could help nail down the problem.

Sorry to hear you are having this problem. It is not all that uncommon to have pedestal problems. I suggest the following:

1/ Make certain your plug contacts are clean (polish with fine sand paper or steel wool) and apply a thin coat of contact grease.

2/ When unplugged, remove the cover of the transfer switch and tighten all of the connections. It is a good idea to disable the generator if you have auto start. Don't want any power coming on while in the switch.

3/ The last place I would look is in the coach service panel. You didn't indicate if you loose inverter powered stuff. If you don't keep the inverter running try turning it on and see if you loose power from it when the failure happens. I doubt that you will but there is no harm in checking.

the problem is with the coach. Each time it's happened I can unplug the power cable for a little while plug it back in and the power has stayed on all night and till afternoon the next day. Usually late afternoon. Don't think it's an overload as it has happened with only two of the ACs on. Wondered if the transfer switch has a relay or reset on it?

Does your coach have some kind of a surge protector or voltage protection unit hard wired in to the coach. If this is malfunctioning, or detecting a problem with the voltage coming in to the coach, it will reset itself when all voltage is removed [unplugging the coach].

I would guess your plug to the pole looses contact after an extended period of time. Perhaps due to the weight of the cord hanging down.

Was the light in the plug on when power was lost?

The light on the plug is always on even after power failure. The outlet plug was new and very tight. Checked the connections in the transfer switch good.

I am suspecting something is going bad in your energy management system. Exactly what are you loosing? Is the EMS indicating that you are on 50A service?

Gas 13,

It seems impossible that the light at the plug end would be lit with a power failure unless you had current coming from your coach's transfer switch going back through the cord to the pedestal (very dangerous). I would also think you'd see damage at the end of the cord and tripped breakers at the ped. Do you have a multi meter to check for voltage at the cord end? Unless I'm totally missing something- you have a dangerous issue here.

Perhaps your EMS is detecting low voltage due to everyone in the park using their AC in the late afternoon as well as microwaves etc. A local brownout might cause this.

Was this always at the same pedestal? If yes, try another pedestal.
Do you have an EMS?

The power loss seems to be with the coach not the shore power. Yes I have a power management system. The management system shows no service when this happens. Not sure how to check this or where it is. Different park each time. Last time started the gen And got power from it. The next morn unplugged from shore powere for five minutes then plugged back up and it worked for the rest of the day.

Try another pedestal. An open neutral can be intermittant.

This has happened at multiple pedestals. Last two times the coach next to me had power. Don't know how to check the transfer switch or the management system. I think it is one of these two that's giving the problem.
