Slide topper not rolling up

We are in a campsite in DesMoines. Temp is 28degrees. Very heavy frost. When bringing slide in, the topper fabric did not wind in, it just bunched up. Is it just a matter of waiting until the temp warms up the retracting tube? Advice/insight welcomed! Thanks!

While extended spray wd-40 on the roller ends. If it is froze that will thaw it out and lube at the same time

Same thing happened to me...twice. Once it was freezing rain and the second time it was snow. Both times I had to get the ladder out and clean off the top of the slide cover for it to close. You may try spraying water from the hose on top the slide cover to thaw it out. (Did not work for me)

With the ice I had to remove it (ice) from the cover with a rubber hammer to get it to close.
With the snow I had to clean it off by hand. To make matters worse I had had shoulder surgery just 2 months earlier and getting the ladder up was really a pain. (The DW was also in a restricted lifting mode at the time)

I now close the slides at night when traveling in the Winter.

Thank you!

Thanks for the advice/insight. It is great to be able to post here and receive excellent advice! Seems our problem was resolved by waiting for the temp to rise. Once the temp got up to 34 degrees, the slide toppers went in without a glitch! Thanks again for your quick response!

Like trackman said, lubing the springs should prevent future occurrences.
