Smart Tile Installation

A question for those of you that have installed the vinyl "Smart Tile" back-splash in the kitchen or bath. How did you handle the wall board divider strips? Did you cut them out to give a flat surface, or leave them in place and install around them or what? I have one divider strip in the bath at the sink that I have to deal with. Thankfully, none in the kitchen. I'm thinking I'll try using a razor knife and cut the front part of it off.

I only had a strip in the corner. I left it in place and used clear silicone on all the edges. Click image for larger version

This is our bar area using the smart tiles. It was a relatively quick and easy job.

I had one batten on my drywall backsplash. I tried everything to remove it but couldn't get it off without being afraid of tearing up more than I could repair. I used the smartile that is square mosaic and just applied it right over the batten. As luck would have it a "grout line" in the tile hit on each side of the batten. There is a very small bump, but you would never notice it unless you were looking for it. Sorry, don't have a pic.

We only had wood trim strips in the corners. I left them there and fitted the tile to the strip!
