Smart Wheel Cruise control

Hello all,

I contacted Smartwheel to see if they can reprogram the max cruise from 75 to 80, their replay was we don’t do programming and to find a dealer or ?? to help out.

Anyone here ever had to have their Smartwheel reprogrammed?
Thanks in advance.
Please don’t turn this into a thread about driving 80. [emoji1360]

It may be programmed into the ECM of the engine. Call the manufacturer of the engine or a shop that services them and ask.

While you are then get them to burn you a copy of how the ECM is programmed, good to have if something happens. I've got a copy of mine but can't remember if this is one of the parameters. I know that max speed is.

Those values can be changed with the Cummins Insite program in the ECM.

Thanks Palehorse89,

Didn’t think would be in the ECU, it’s at the shop right now for a boost issue.

Well, now knowing ya have a Big Kitty Cat........ not sure. Wonder as long as its there, if they can hook up the CAT software / program and see if those values are in there? Good luck with your Kitty at the Vet!

All modern day vehicles that use " drive by wire" for accelerator pedal the speed control is built into the engine ecu.

OK, I have to ask, why do you need to set cruise to 80mph anyway? That's just too fast. You are suppose to be enjoying the view. Slow down and enjoy life before it passes you by (OK you pass it by at 80).

Just a heads up, go to your specific brand and tire model/size and look up the speed rating of your tires, most people overlook this information as they only look at load/inflation tables, you might be surprised that a lot of rv tires are only rated for 75mph.

Do you think that someone who wants to cruise at 80 mph is concerned about a 75 mph speed rating?

Yeah,
I too have to kind-a wonder why 80 mph? I mean, that speed is ZINGIN' down the road, especially in a motorhome. I've had ours to 78-79 once or twice, passing a line of trucks and while it's really not scary to me, it's just not fun and enjoyable. To each his own on this. I myself am real comfy at about 62.

Just an FYI, I don’t always cruise at 80, most the time 70, less if I have a trailer which is most the time.
Tires are rated at 75, I had checked that out.
Sometimes I just have to move along. 😁
The boost issue was a pressure hose with a hole, back to 40 pounds of and running great.
