Folks,

I have to tell you about this. I have been chasing a problem with wandering steering on my Freightliner XC chassis. Two alignments, ride height all up to spec, new Koni FSDs, steering box tweaked to perfection, and after all that it was still hunting from side to side just a little. Well so much that my lovely bride would not drive it over 60. I was about to trade up to a Country Coach with a tag just to get something that didn't frighten her.

I fixed it tonight. Both alignment shops had set up the front toe to be neutral or just in toe. 0.20 inch in toe with the last alignment. I adjusted the toe to be 1/16 or .060 and the coach started driving like a dream. My hands are no longer in constant motion. Steady like a car.

I hope if you are me, and searching the forums for a cure to the hunting hound dog, that you find this post. I never made a hundred thou in an hour before.

I think it's time for a margarita.

I went from -0.10 / -0.22 to 0.04 last week, and I'm real happy with it, too.

Bikeboy57,

Just to make it clear for me, you have adjusted the front toe-in to .06, i.e., the front of the tires are .06 inches closer together than the rear of the tires. Have I interpeted this correctly?

Good job. However, if I had a good excuse to trade up to a Country Coach and had the $$$$$ to do it, I may have just let the thing wander for someone else .

.06 closer is correct. I would suggest to both of you with questions that you do a quick search on front end alignment terms. Also look for "truck field alignment" to get an idea of how this can be done.

The point was to tell the alignment tech to set it up at 1/16 instead of what his spec sheet tells him.
