Steering Problem

2004 Adventurer 36 Ft Gas Workhorse - 43000 miles
After Market TruCenter Installed by previous owner

We would like to know if any one had had a problem with TruCenter by Blue Ox steering control unit.

While traveling 3 days ago I exited expressway and had two sharp turns to the right. After second turn to right, wheel came to center but would not allow turn to left past center. I was in position to get off road to right and, after unhooking toad, backed up straight and turned right into empty lot.
I put in park with emergency brake on and jacked up front end to take weight off front end and had my wife start motor and turn steering hard right and as far to left as possible. After a few times of this the steering did begin to go all the way left. We drove separately for a couple of hours before reattaching the toad. We had no problems. We drove approximately 170 miles after the problem.

TruCenter suggested that I remove the TruCenter, but before doing this I thought I would check and see if anyone had a similar problem and if they were able to determine a cause.

Thanks.

Last year I experienced the same type of problem. It happened once or twice. I replaced the hydraulic filters and it hasn't happened since. We did not have a Blue Ox or any type of steering stabilizer.

As I recall, Blue Ox had some problems with the early versions of the True Center and did some redesign to fix it up. Your 2004 may be old enough to be one of the problem children? Blue Ox is real good about customer support - did they say anything other than "remove it"?

Blue Ox did have problems with the previous generation True-Center units as Gary pointed out. I don't think it was all of them. They switched suppliers in 2005 and that is when all the problems started. So I was told by Blue Ox.
I had one of them made in the latter part of 2005. They would lock up much as you described. They had me send it back and they ultimately refunded my money as it took over 1 1/2 years before they finally came out with the improved version.

Steering Problem

Blue Ox did not mention anything to us regarding previous problems or redesign because of a problem. There was no suggestion to us other than removing it. Also suggested we bring it by their factory in Nebraska and have them check it. That would be sometime between June and Aug. Thanks for all your suggestions. We'll try to find out if there was a service bulletin issued.

Just thought I would mention that the paper work that came with my TruCenter says it must be serviced every two years to maintain proper functioning.
