Steps not working & strange orange light under frame
So for the past week that I've owned my 2005 Tiffin the steps have worked great. Until today.
Now they won't extend, guess that is better than won't retract.
When I open the screen door I hear a click but no step movement. The strange orange light, about the size of a hockey puck lights up too. Is that a prior owner test light to confirm power?
Any ideas? Already sprayed the linkage with silicone lube.
Copilot don't care about the steps but wife does.

pretty sure the orange light is OEM and provides some light on the steps at night. About the rest, looks like it’s trouble shooting time

As posted orange light is a night light. Go to kiwiki web page for diagnosing.

That strange light is normal. It is the step light that comes on when you open the door. As far as the steps not wanting to extend, that could be several things. I'm not sure what manufacture made your steps, but here is a site that can help if they are Kwikee Steps https://support.lci1.com/kwikee-steps and there are lots of You Tube Video on troubleshooting step problems. Some are really simple fixes, others will require some mechanical skills, but really not too complicated. I'm sure others will chime in soon.

Yup that is OEM step light. The door opens and that light comes on to help see the steps during the hours of darkness. I have been under my RV troubleshooting my steps today too.

I have the same coach. Yes the orange light is just a night light. The steps run off of the house batteries. If they are weak they will come up real slow or just partially and stop. Try it with the coach running or with the generator or shore power hooked up which will provide additional voltage if batteries are the problem.
BEWARE!! Be VERY careful when working on them underneath the coach. DO NOT work on them with any part of your body beneath them that your are fond of. That is when they WILL decide to come down and they are strong!! Don't ask how I know. Either get to the side of them or better yet between the back side of them and the driveshaft side. They can't attack you there. Also don't put your fingers between the arms unless you want to be called nubbie!

Thanks for the replies.
Saw a couple YouTube clips suggesting to remove the cotter key & pin. That could be my problem the pin is stuck, whacking with a hammer makes it move only till flush with the curved arm.
Will try a bit of WD40, some cursing and a sandwich.

While you're eating your sandwich, you might watch this YouTube video:
It gives a pretty thorough explanation of a probable cause and solution.
Good luck.
Take care,
Stu

If I had done that every time I worked on my RV over the years I would weigh 500 lbs now!
