I was extending the step cover when it stopped about 7” out (almost covering the top step). When I press the switch to extend or retract I can hear the motor humming but there is no movement. I also checked the 12V breakers and they are OK. I was able to snake an endoscope /camera under the stairs and confirmed that the jack screw is not turning.
The only causes of the step not moving that I can come up with are a) motor broken, b) jack screw binding between what looks like carpet backing/tape and the wood underside of the step cover (pic #3), c) jack screw binding somewhere else. What are your thoughts?
In picture #4 I’m showing the area above the driver’s side of the generator. Are these screws securing an access panel and the back side of the motor mount? This area is challenging to get to, and I will have very limited room to maneuver if I do need to remove the panel.
What are your thoughts about how I can retract the step cover? How can I gain access to the underside of the step cover? Is a schematic drawing available?
I’m providing pictures of 1) step cover partially extended, 2) jack screw at motor (surprisingly clean), 3) end of jack screw (possibly binding between carpet backing and underside of step cover), 4) drivers-side of generator, 5) jack screw attached to step cover frame.
