I am looking to install the Surge Guard permanently in my MH. The shore power cord is hard wired in the MH. I assume I can mount the Surge Guard in the same bay, cut the cord, and wire it in and out. Is it that simple or do I need a professional installer?

Assuming you have the space in your electrical compartment, it should be that simple! Cut your line cord with enough pigtail to wire into your surge guard on the load side, and then wire the remaining cord into the line side.
Be sure to mount some type of strain relief on your line cord so it cannot be pulled off the surge guard terminals.

I installed my Progressive HW and although it was technically easy, it was very difficult to get room to work in the electrical bay...also working with 6G wire is fairly hard to do.

Larry, I would second your comments on working with large gauge wire, unless you have heavy duty equipment you could run into trouble down the road.

I also installed the Progressive HW, but put it downstream of the transfer switch to protect from generator over/under voltage in addition to campground wiring problems. Technically easy but very stiff wire to work with. Fred

I wired mine inside the bay. I might suggest that you leave a tail long enough so that you are able to work the connections outside the bay. You wil be able to easily see what your doing and save your back.

I have an empty space near the front of the bin. I won't have to reach to the back to wire it.

When the SurgeGuard takes a big hit it may have to be sent back to Clearwater, FL to be restored. I put a short lead with a male cord end going into my transfer switch and wired a short lead with a female cord end coming out of the SurgeGuard alond with another short lead with a male plug going into it. Put a female end on the power cord making it into an extension.
This way I can easily bypass the SurgeGuard if it fails and send it back for service. It also allows me to replace the power cord with any RV extension in a flash.

That was one of my concerns with a hard wired installation. The info on Surge Guard says "Keyed Bypass Switch for Emergency Operation". Does anyone know exactly what that means?

Wayne, you haven't said which SP you will have if it is this ONE I do not see the bypass key that I have on mine.
The key when turned on will allow low voltage to pass thru the SP but still protects you from power surges, lighting etc. etc.
