Gary, you are totally correct. In real practice, surges are generally caused by lighting which is less frequent than mis-wiring (caused by worn outlets) or low voltages.

Surge protectors are insurance. The $100 ones are the equivalent of having liability only, the $400 is full coverage. Take your pick. For what I have invested in my MH, it will not roll without full coverage nor will it plug in without full surge protection. I'll scrimp elsewhere if money is an issue. That being said, I have a Surge Guard but will buy a Progressive if this one ever gives up the ghost.

We have the EMS-PT30X for our coach. It was $257 from Amazon and when it was shipped to me (free shipping) the plastic front cover was missing. One call to Progressive and the new cover was here in 2 days. When I get a chance, I'm going to rewire the shore cable so that the EMS will stay locked in the electrical compartment and not hanging on the pedestal.
