TDI Shoreline Reel #RVW5003

Hello,

The water hose reel stopped working a few months ago. It had started to fail many months before the complete failure. The model RVW5003 is out of production and I have seen a few comments stating the RW5004K is a direct replacement.

Looking at pictures of the two and comparing measurements, the two are not the same size.

Has anyone replaced the RVW5003?

Mark

Before replacing you might try figuring what is wrong. You might be able to fix and repair.

Here is a common part

Thanks for the response.

There is not any noise when the retract button is pressed and there is power. When it started to fail, I had to pull on the hose (extend) while pressing the button and the motor would start to retract the hose. Like the motor needed a force to pull against.

I was thinking about drilling out the pop rivets today to take a look.

I drilled out the pop rivets and the gears look good, even had some grease on them. It appears the motor is bad.

If there is info on the motor you might be able to get a replacement. Always cheaper then whole new unit.

Thanks for the response.

I thought about that. After looking at the total cost and time required, I decided to order a Shoreline replacement.

I will post the results after the installation is complete.

Today, I replaced the failed RVW5003 with a RW5004K. For me, it was not a direct replacement. But, it is in and functioning. The RW5004K does appear better made than the RVW5003.
