Test driving a MH with no intention of buying it

Does anyone ever test drive a coach they have no intention of buying. With cars I have done it on occasion.

Any thoughts?

I think that if you test drive at a dealer and don't have to lie to them just to test drive, it's ok.

If it's a private owner I think you should be straight up. Heck, he might even take you for a drive if you are just curious about the ride, etc.

Thanks,

It would be from the dealer where I purchased my coach. I told him it would be next season before I am on the market and he said work away.

He also said do not be surprised if my old coach drives better with the work I have done on it.

This is not surprising but more than a little bit disappointing. " Don't worry about the ride...... you can fix that later."
I know he didn't say that. That's just my dealer interpreter talking.

I test drove the three wives I married and absolutely the MH. I bought all of them. Some didn't stay. The last one did for 31 years and she also loves our MH so we are good as they say.

On the serious side of a test drive be sure to test drive it for about 3-4 hours or about 100 miles and turn around and head back. This will tell you a lot about the handling., noise, acceleration, speed on hills etc. If the dealer will not let you then why should you invest your coins with him. you only talking about $30 bucks in fuel.

watch the gauges, and inspect for leaks when you get back. If you don't know a thing about the chassis get a knowledgeable person to look at it too.

I personally know the sales guy and he knows I will be in the market at some stage.

So, basically, you want to go joy riding in an expensive motor home that you expect someone else to buy? Really? Let me know the dealership's name that will allow that, I won't be buying from them.

Unless you buy from factory and pickup at same, ALL motorized have been test driven. For us left coasters, that means a couple k on the odometer, before it reaches the lot.

A unit just sitting is worse than one which gets to full temp for 20 minutes or more a month. Tough on them just sitting, or just run to move around the lot or to check batts.

Mine was new, after being at the lot for almost a year. I like end of year bargains, and get it off the lot margins, but I know the pitfalls and am a former paid mechanic on anything that has an engine.
