Texas class B exempt license

Hello all, I'm new here and to a motorhome, my wife and I got a 2007 fleetwood discovery 40x about 6 months ago, during that time we were getting things we thought we needed and driving around a little bit, i spent time going over the motorhome, get to know it and see if it needed any service, i ended up replacing a bunch of rubber hoses, overflow tank, serpentine belt ext, Everything is good right now.. so today I took my class B exempt knowledge test. I was excited until I saw that I had a R restriction, which basically means I need to have someone in the motor home with me who has a higher then a class C driver's license with me, i do not know anyone with one. How am I supposed to practice? And do I need to have some with me when I go to take the test ? Thanks in advance, happy to be.

First off, Welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as there are hundreds of over 26k lbs motor home drivers that are running around with just a Class C license in violation of state law. Your chances of having an issue with driving a bit for practice is very slim. As for taking the driving test, I drove by myself to take mine and the examiner never asked if I was accompanied.

Your insurance company knows what kind of license you have and knows what kind of vehicle it's insuring you to drive with that license.

What's wrong with Texas? Need a special license to drive a Class B? Do you need a special license to drive a full size 1/2 ton? My F150 is as long as an average B.

I don't understand. Special license for a Class A I understand.

The Class B Driver's License in Texas is for operating an RV that weighs over 26,000 lbs. It is not for a Class B type RV. A bit confusing here.

Yes, you are supposed to have someone with a "higher" license with you in order to drive you rig, but at least you have completed the written exam, so you are familiar with the laws concerning driving the RV. In our case, we went to school and other large parking lots and practiced a lot there, and then drove on the roads for practice as well. Just be cautious, careful and don't get in a hurry. The examination center did not question us on how got our rig to the center. The wait time for the driving portion of the exam is usually months long, so get online and sign up now. You should have plenty of time to practice.

Good Luck!

Progressive has added inserts to my renewals indicating that if you received a citation for "Driving Out of Class" during an accident insurance coverage could be denied.
