Tight squeeze getting into 1/2 bathroom

When the slides are in and we want to use the 1/2 bathroom, the door handle on the bathroom door hits the door handle on the fridge so it doesn't open very far (2019 Fleetwood Discovery LXE 40M). If I suck my gut in I can barely squeeze through, and I'm only 180 lb. Has anyone found a solution to this? Maybe a door handle for the bathroom door that doesn't stick out so much? I have found a couple of flush door handles on Amazon, but they are to big for the door.

You could replace it with a folding door like on a closet or one of the new style doors that hinge in the center.

can the door be reversed so it swings in the opposite direction? we did that with a cabinet door.

I may have to look for a bi- fold door. I don’t think having the door swing open the other way will work, I think it will still hit the fridge. I did look at the door knob from h#*$ and that is the flush handle I tried, but my door isn’t thick enough for it. I may try that flush mount handle again, but leave out the locking mechanisms and maybe put some magnets on the door and door jam to hold it closed. We don’t need it to lock.

I don't know if it would work but what about trying the door mounting hardware that Newmar uses. When the door is opened, a third of the door goes into the bathroom space. Just a thought.

I solved the problem. I ordered https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and got a Hole Filler Plate from Lowes. I attached the handle to the hole filler plate so I wouldn't have to drill more holes into the door. After that it was just adjusting the door ball catch. I also didn't use the dead bolt part of the recessed handle because it didn't fit my door. The door doesn't lock, but we don't really need it to since i is just me and DW.

This is a marine latch. Remove the door knob and guts and install this latch on the outside. Use Velcro along the door frame to hold the door closed while in use. From the inside, you could use the same latch or a plate, since you just need to push on the door to exit.

I can feel your pain on your problem.

When we bought ours the DW asked the salesman if restroom was easily accessible with slides in. He wasn't sure. We didn't take it for as spin until she approved it, and there has been several times I'm glad she had smarts to check it out.

Good luck on a resolution to the problem.

Wow....I'm sorry I missed the time frame and that he got it fixed. I was distracted and just added a suggestion, not realizing that he had resolved issue. I promise never to do it again, especially since I see there is someone policing those who make a mistake.

You could replace the door and use a locking pocket door lock. You would have to mortise the new door for the lock and change the strike to match the new lock. Should be a pretty easy fix and not cost that much.
