I'll keep my thick tiled floors. They are quiet, don't flex, creek or squeak. In the summer they are cool on the feet, in the winter, the aqua hot heating the basement keeps them warm and their thermal mass means the heat runs less. Easy to clean...track in mud? Windex All Purpose cleaner and a paper towel, good as new. Spill a drink, slop a little coffee or favorite beverage on the floor? Yep, paper towel and it is not only clean, but, dry. Ever noticed the "track" in carpet? You know, the path that gets dirtier and more worn in the carpet... You won't notice one on our tile. I've never noticed the tile being slippery when wet, we tend to wipe our shoes off, or just take them off altogether. If we do accidentally track in a little moisture, a swipe with a paper towel and all is good. The grout is sealed and doesn't stain or discolor. Cleaning is a snap, run a Swiffer around to gather the dirt and herd it over to the built in vacuum's floor level intake and it sucks it away. Don't even need to wax it...3 years old and it still looks new.
Is it heavy? Yes, but, we still have a ton (2100 lbs.) of load that we don't use. DW and I are quite happy with our tiled floor and we won't be going back to carpet or linoleum any time soon (never).
