I understand the need for tire protection from uv damage. Having said that, I am looking for alternative methods other than the vinyl full wheel covers. These are a problem installing and removing. The only time these are practical is for long term storage. I am thinking of the sunscreen wheel protectors, but these will require installation of snaps around the perimeter of the wheel openings. I hate to drill holes , etc. then find out it was not such a good idea afterall.

I thoight that the new tire formulations were not as bothered by UV as those made years ago.
The best way to find out woukd be to go to different web sites and read their specs.
Most rv's I see do not use covering materials.

If UV was really a problem I would think that tire dealers would recommend covers everytime you buy tires.

I've also read that tire protection liquids are not recommended also. Just soap and water.

Gary85 - UV rays will always be a problem for our tires and many other surfaces, that's why I keep the curtains closed when the RV is in storage. I don't have tire covers yet, but I would think anything that keeps the direct sunlight off the tires while stored would be a good thing. I have also been thinking of the simple sunscreen rectangle over the wheel wells to protect the tires. Much easier than the fitted covers, and would seem to offer the same protection. I hope someone comes along soon with a more definitave answer.

I have used the vinyl covers on for my last and present MH. I started to use the bungee cords in the beginning, but got tired of that pretty fast. Now I just slip the covers on, they never have blown off.
The main reason I use the covers is to keep the aluminum wheels clean.

This is a popular misconception. Your tires have a built in uv protection and will last a maximum 6-7 years regardless of whether you try to protect them or not. Chances are you will not wear them out in that amount of time anyway. Take the money you were going to spend on "protection" and put it away towards the new tires you will need in 6+ years anyway.

I have used 303 Protectant on our RV tires for several years. It is supposed to give them a level of protection and it makes them look nice and new also.

But as Gary said, they will have to be replaced every 6-7 years anyway so whatever one does to protect them is actually mute.
