To add or not to add slide toppers
My coach did not have slide toppers when purchased. Is it worth adding them?
If so what fabric?
Happy camping

JMHO: Yes, worth the cost, they are normally vinyl ; white; other colors may be available .
If your parked under trees, it is important to have the toppers , or clean the top of the slide before bringing it in. Debris can get into the coach , in the case of pine cones , jam the slide and cut the seal ( don't ask ).

The coaches I have bought always had them. Regardless, I think they are better than not having them.
The main draw back to them is that in a high wind they can be a problem in that they catch the wind and flap around or worse can be ripped off. There are times that I have had to bring in the slide if the wind is strong enough. They seem to take more abuse than the awning would though.

The newer high end fivers are not putting them on.
It is really a toss up and personal preference.
If the were not on I would not waste my money putting them on.
We have had both. If you pull in the slides after a rain chances are
some water will run inside.

I have noticed that some manufactures leave them off "as a standard feature", simply to lower the cost of the unit. They want to make the price of the unit seem less, but it does not mean that it is the best thing to not have them. They simply want you to include them as an add on, to then make more money. If they are an add on, then you have to pay retail for the awnings as well as installation cost. That is JMHO.

Well here's a no vote. We've never had the toppers...don't have to worry about bringing the slides in if we get strong winds. I have seen people with them trying to get debris out from under them when trying to get the slide in. I have had to clean off my slides a handfull of times in over 4 1/2 yrs. of fulltiming, but it's never been a major problem. If it's raining when we want to leave, we just stay til it stops. I have a telescoping pole with either a squeegy or brush on the end depending on which one I need. I've never relished the idea of having to get up at 2am to pull in my slides if it gets too windy.

We just replaced the original slide toppers that had begun to show wear after 16 years. Never had any troubles with wind or debris. Leaving them off new units is likely just cost saving by manufacturers.
