Toyo m144 made in china

I just had a new set of Toyo m144’s 295/80/22.5 installed on my front axle. I was a little surprised That they say “made in china “ on them. They must have switched lately or maybe they make them in different plants.

Oh, jeez. Interesting. Toyo does have factories in China but it was my understanding that none of their commercial truck tires that are marketed in the U.S. come from that factory. That's disappointing.

But again, as we've discussed previously, the quality of the tire itself should not suffer as Toyo has very strict manufacturing procedures and apply the identical manufacturing techniques no matter what plant a tire is manufactured.

The standard procedure is to have managers and observers from the parent company in Japan to monitor the plant. This is similar to what other tire companies (or even car companies) do is to initially bring in managers from the home corporate office to open and run the plant for a time.

Yokohama is a good example. When they first opened their plant in Mississippi, I understand that not only was the CEO of Yokohama North America from Japan but so were the top management team. Now, it's slowly being turned over to U.S. managers and they just promoted Jeff Barna to CEO.

But nonetheless, to see that Toyo is selling tires in the U.S. that come from their plant in China is really disappointing to me.

Just bought 144 Toyos in Florida , made in “Japan “ on them. Canada must get from the China plant. Almost all the majors have plants in China.

Huh, okay. I didn't catch the OP being in Canada. ...I guess the screen name should have tipped me off too but I'm just not as sharp at noticing detail now being elderly than I once was as I am pretty detail oriented.

But no matter, still an interesting observation that I was not aware of ...M144 sold in Canada may come from China.

All of my M144's have been made in Japan, but I've been purchasing them in Oregon.

I will be reluctantly replacing my 255/80R 22.5 7-year old Michelin XRV Tires on my 2004 Itasca Meridian with 265/75R 22.5 Toyo tires. Reluctantly because there are no Michelins in my size in the Phoenix, AZ area, and none available in any warehouse according to several dealers.

I'm happy with the service Michelins have given me over the past 22 years, have 49K miles on the current set with 8/32" tread remaining, but they are 7 years old and are exhibiting some cosmetic sidewall cracks. For safety reasons if nothing else, they will be replaced. I know nothing about Toyo tires, but they are the only ones that will come close to the OEM Michelin 255/80R 22.5 dimensions. I can guarantee that I will not accept ANY tire made in China.

Guess you won’t be buying anything anymore. Most items are sourced in China these days. Thank the greedy billionaires looking for cheap labour and non existent environmental laws.

Apparently blaming billionaires (presumably company owners) is OK, but blaming regulations that killed heavy industry in the US is not.
