Tree sap ugghhh.

Seeing another post about bugs reminded me to share this. Here In BC we have a lot of cottonwood trees, and as the trees leaf out in the spring they shed incredibly sticky sheaths that the leaves develop in. This stuff sticks to everything. Shoes, pets fur, and especially paint. Often in campgrounds this stuff can ruin a weekend escape.
There is only 1 solution I have found. Hand sanitizer! The gel alcohol stuff. A little dab on the spot on your hood and a light rub will take it right off.

Just for grins, try Peanut butter.

I have found RainX bug and tar remover gel, https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rain-X-Bu...&wl13=&veh=sem, works well if you use it right away. Otherwise if it's dried on the Rain X still works but takes more muscle and also Goo gone spray gel, https://www.walmart.com/ip/Goo-Gone-...12-oz/13432555, works.

The only thing I can add is don't let the sap sit too long, it WILL damage paint.

May be difficult for some, but I never, never park under trees. My 2005 Suncruiser shines as new.

That’s not even a choice at many parks. Besides any small wind will blow these things for a distance as they fall off 50’ + trees. My car was 40’ away and still had the odd few on it. Bug remover didn’t work. It left a smear patch . I imagine if I used 4 or 5 oz per spot it could. Currently Brae Island Camp at Fort Langley is cutting down these giant weeds.

Try plain old isopropyl alcohol, available in grocery & drug stores for a dollar or two. Or mineral spirits.

Isopropyl alcohol remove many kinds of tree saps, the ubiquitous pine pitch in particular.

That will work. Of course these little sticky buds will just stick and stain the cover.

Gary nailed it. There's all sort of 'spensive chemicals and pre-packaged potions. Around here it is hard to avoid pine sap, but plain ole Alcholol does it lightning fast. Just make sure your small rag is wet — slowly rub it and a 3/16's wad of pitch will disappear fast. ...even the old ones. Use a new piece of cloth on the next one. Cheers.

RV park neighbor got tired of cleaning pine sap off roof. Cleaned and sprayed roof with Pam. Never did hear how that worked out.

I did that on the front of our old Winny. Removes bugs easy they said! What a mess! I can imagine the danger in oiling up your roof! You may never hear because they slipped off their oily roof and killed themselves.
