TV mount ideas - 2000 Monaco

So the current TV rides in a cubby in the headliner above the driver/passenger seats and its an old tube style

I would like to replace it with something more modern and a good bit larger/lighter but am thinking of how to mount it

Has anyone used on of the automatic tilt type mounts to that the TV can be retracted up to the ceiling, and if so, how did you go about doing it?

The tricky part to me is mounting the TV mount to the existing overhead cubby (which should be able to support the weight) and still having something that can fold it up to the ceiling while driving

Good idea, but I would use something other than OSB (flake board). It becomes weak with age and the fasteners don't really have anything to bite into. 5/8 or 3/4 birch or maple plywood would be a better choice. Glued and screwed.

I did a swing type mount to give me access to the cabinet for storage plus I can turn/tilt/swing TV for better viewing. I can even turn it so I can sit outside and see it if I want.

I used a square baluster and standard TV mount, just had to figure out positioning to center TV

clever ideas, but I'm not a fan of either...if I am going to do a new TV I want something a little bigger than the 19" tube TV enclosure, and I worry that the swivel arm could allow the thing to swing about while on the road

More specifically I want to use the current enclosure as the mounting point, since obviously it's already set up to handle the weight and would allow me to avoid fasteners into the ceiling, which I doubt would be the best idea or even possible

My buddy has a really nifty TV retractor that folds it flat up against his ceiling (in his home) but it mounts to the ceiling itself, folds the tv up flat against the ceiling when not in use, which to me would be the most convenient for the RV use

Thanks for your inputs, I love the creativity in making new work with old!

Good point, also doesn't do well with end-in fasteners and vibrations, a good plywood is a much better idea, and I would probably use some varnish to seal it even so

The first mount I did in ~2010 for a heavier flat screed TV was simple, hinged up so I could get at the TV cabinet for storage BUT the bouncing ultimately destroyed the plastic on the back of TV. I reinforced it to make it last longer but knew future mounts would have to take the weight/bouncing into consideration.
So the 2nd generation with the swing out arm incorporated supports/fasteners around the perimeter of the TV to keep it from bouncing around while driving an the two at the bottom help support the weight. This system has been in place since ~2014 and works great. But you have to remember to turn the keepers to hold the TV in place.

Here is a picture showing supports. You can see them around the edge. These are simply screen window clips.

Did the following in mine...

https://www.irv2.com/forums/f65/what...ml#post6202127

Mounted the old frame to the exterior of the board I made up. Just purchased (4) longer screws to replace the original ones. Took a lot of the weight from the overhead and much quieter going down the road.

...

The previous owner of ours did a similar turn/tilt/swing out as jacwjames.
I don't even know how big the TV is but big enough for us and we can still see out the windshield and get in and out of the coach.
A bungee cord keeps it secure during travel.

I removed my TV from the front also. Purchased an antique cabinet (DW is into antiques - notice the antique lace curtains she crocheted) and put it on the side opposite to the new theater seating I installed. Ran power and cable to it. We only have a 32" TV which stands on top of the cabinet when at a CG and lays on the bed when we travel. Light enough for me to move back and forth. The old cabinet in the front was made a storage cabinet for light objects ( plastic containers, trays, etc).

Replaced both CRT’s with LCD’s mounted to swing style TV mount brackets - the brackets are made to lock into placed for stowing while traveling.

Front TV, I moved the location from the center headache rack area to across the coach from the couch. Used/modified the door of that cabinet to cover the hole where the old CRT was, and made a flat panel door to mount the TV bracket too so the cabinet could still be used.

Rear TV - again made a panel to fill the opening and hinged that panel so we could utilize the storage of the space where the old CRT was.
Mounted the locking arm TV mount to the door.

Arrive at destination, pull locking cord, swing TV out to comfortably watch. Load up to leave, swing TV back in place, make sure it locks in - were “on the road”.

My 2000 also original heavy tub type and new flat screen base legs were just drilled/ screwed to base which was 3/4" or better by PO; I later converted to toolless for front TV to a machine screws/ nuts, up thru bottom, then wing nuts to hold TV; has held 5+years so far w/ no issue. Believe MY REAR TV HAS TWO SCREWS FRONT legs and one screw rear to prevent bounce/sway and RISK of snapping a plastic leg?

I removed the anchor/CRT and built a hinged door to cover the new vacant space. I hinged the door on top and installed a small gas spring to raise and hold the door up when open. Where the CRT was, is now storage for DVD's, CD's, etc.

I mounted a 32" LED TV on the door after staining the wood. I don't have pictures.
