I agree with the recommendations to look at well preserved models from Coach House or Phoenix Cruiser. Obtaining factory support should be an aspect of a purchase decision, fortunately both Phoenix Cruiser & Coach House have a solid reputation in this regard.
At the age of 65, I prefer much less trouble shooting and DIY repairs …I imagine I’ll feel more strongly about contorting my arthritic body into hard-to-reach areas a decade from now.
A top quality Tier 1 build becomes more essential as I progressively age. I won’t have the patience to ‘screw around’ with light duty fixtures attached to flimsy paneling and stapled construction in low-quality mass produced brands.
IF you have a competent (any brand) RV Service Center, or independent mobile RV Tech in your area …I would also consider a Canadian made Pleasure Way rig, since their enduring build quality is highly respected within the industry.
I think Pleasure Way’s ‘Pursuit’ B+ model on a Ford gas powered chassis, offers a lot of value in a compact, non-slide rig.
Simplicity of design (with less failure points) may be attractive attributes for your needs, or floor plans featuring a permanent bed that doesn’t require preparation to use.
The B+ rigs built upon a true commercial cutaway platform are more spacious than the van-based versions (equipped with curbside barn doors …or a slider) which are much narrower, and have less head room).
Below are rigs within (or close to) your price range, while not necessarily possessing all ideal features … these are more agile, easier to maneuver 23 ft models:
