Wackey speedo, generator slide
Looking for someone else that has a problem with speedo going crazy and ABS light coming on. Think it might be the input speed sensor, not sure. Any ideas?
Also, the generator slide out comes in tilted so it rubs as it retracts back into position.

It will help if we knew what make/model/year/engine/chassis you have.

It would really help understanding your problems with your type of RV listed in your signature. As a general suggestion, check for a bad ground wire under the dashboard. Try adding a temporary ground wire to the instrument cluster and see if the speedometer needle calms down.

When you click on his profile, it's really easy, he has a 38' Alpine by WRV.
Welcome to the irv2.com discussion forums Jerry! Since there is so many differences in MH's it is very helpful to know as many details as possible. The ABS light usually is triggered by dirt and debris on the sensor. Infrequently it can be cleaned by a direct stream from your water hose. The ABS light came on/stayed on in my MH for weeks, until I drove in/through a heavy rainstorm. A few days later I noticed it was not on, and hasn't since (exept for startup).

Still do not know year or chassis-if it's a mechanical speedometer it could be as simple as cleaning/greasing the cable or if it's a electronic speedometer could be the sensor/computer/fuse/cruise control. 38' Alpine doesn't tell us if it's diesel or gas. We do know it is new enough to have ABS but so did my 72 Imperial.

thanks for the response, sorry for lack of info. It's an 01 Alpine 38' diesel with an electric speedo. It has a 350 Cummins and a Peak chassis. The other thing it does when this happens( speedo going crazy and ABS light coming on) is the motorhome will sometimes start bucking. When I pull over stop the engine for a min. restart it and it's fine. It' like resetting the computer. Thanks again for your ideas. Jerry

I would look for a loose or corroded ground wire from the frame to engine to battery to chassis or even from the dash. Also keep a eye out for a loose/corroded connectors in the wiring harness. Even if it looks good it can be bad and the only way to know is to measure each with a ohm meter (Should be less than 1 ohm) with battery disconnected or if you are brave and careful you can use the DC volt meter with the engine running and each ground should be less than .25 to .5 volts but steady-if the voltage jumps around and above .5 volts I would clean that connection.

Hey Jerry, my MH is on a Spartan chassis and I have that same speedometer thing, my speedo has a standard needle and elect. readout for mileage. The needle will jump up 10 MPH and instantly return to normal. At the same time my Cummins ISC stumbles/bucks. I also pulled over, shut down, restarted, and things returned to normal. It only happened once, never again. That kinda thing is almost impossible to track down. Good luck!
I have an appointment at the Winnebago factory next month, hope they find the problem.
