Water odor question
Hi Folks
I put fresh water in our holding tank each time we camp and when we turn on a tap it has a very gassy odor yet the water in the tank smells fine. How and what can we do ?
Thank you

Have you ever bleached the tank and lines to sterilize them? Drained the water heater and flushed it out? Often mineral deposits in a WH can cause odors, it can be filled with white vinegar and cleaned. Many videos on YouTube on both introducing bleach to clean the system and vinegar treatments of water heaters. Good luck!

Yeap, need to sanitize the entire water system, including the water heater (the most likely source of the odor). Lots of videos and how-to's available online - here is one:

Bleach is your friend. When I bought my coach the water smelled worse than the black tank. The odor filled the coach after running a faucet to test the pump.
Bleached it twice and it was resolved. Took me along time before I could use the water for anything more than washing. lol
I add some bleach when I fill my tank now and try to cycle through it regularly. I use 3oz per 90 gallons fresh.

Yep, bleaching OR sanitizing your fresh water tank is a PM item. But once you get that done, focus on your entire incoming water set up in your wet bay. Get that right and then from now on, you won't have to worry about these kinds of issues any more.

Unless you fill your tank from a well, most municipal water has been treated and has enough chlorine to prevent growth. I'm not a fan of adding chlorine at every fill, just once a year when returning into service after winter.

I do fill mine from a well. Even if I didn't and had city water it comes from the lake and tends to grow algae easier.
If I fill at a random campground I will often add chlorine anyway.
