My free HF meter reads 0-20VDC to two decimals. AC for mains power has no decimals. Would I drop it from the top of my trailer expecting it to survive? No, of course not, but the price is still right, especially if the price of diesel keeps going down.

Well gang,
OP here. After taking in all the thoughts, reading all the responses, considering all the uses, considering price vs amount of use and, what it will be primarily used on, I came with this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Klein-Tools-MM.../dp/B00EO2HFPI

It's not the fanciest one by any means. It's auto ranging, has audible continuity, a back light for reading in dimly lit areas, and, will handle every type of test/reading I'll throw at it. And, it's supposedly water proof. Not that I'm going scuba diving with it. It has a great little "feel". It's solid and appears to be rugged. I don't plan on mistreating it, it's just nice to have one that feels like it could take a bit of bouncing around.

Klein tools have been around for quite a while so, I suspect this brand will do me just fine and, it should be reliable. I already had a small zipper/case for it so, the fact that it didn't come with one is no big deal. I'm going to have to make some alligator clip attachments for it. And, I'd like some longer leads too. I'll work on that. Thanks again for all who've tried to help here. It's very much appreciated.
Scott
