I had a "C" once where the kitchen and shower went to the grey and the bath sink went to the black. This is not typical, but many are setup this way.

For one, the sensors are notorious for being incorrect. Mine was stuck on 2/3 when it was empty. Sometimes, TP or whatever gets stuck on the sensor. There are a lot of threads on how to clean them. I fixed mine by replacing a defective IC on the board.
As far as dumping grey into the black, some do, some don't. It may have been more convenient or cheaper for the manufacturer to do it that way. If the grey is actually full, it will usually back up into the bathtub/shower.

We haven't used the shower yet.... Now i'm curious... Thought maybe sink was connected to black due to proximity...didn't think about shower.

As far as I know, only black dump into my black tank. I like to take long hot showers and have been standing in water after about 4 days.
I installed brass nipples above the dump valves and added a spare water pump. Now, if the grey ever gets full, I can pump the excess into the black. I could never fill the black tank on normal 4-5 day camping trips.
