Hi Jay,
I think you are correct in your belief the renters either did not shut completely off or left the water running in the shower. They may not have understood there is a limit to the waste water they could generate.

i don't know about pvc decking.
google "allure" for info. allure is about 1/8" thick and is resilient. you may be able to get it from some other vendor.
i found out about allure from this forum. others have installed it with great results. there are pictures of other installations on this forum. my pics to come soon.
the flooring is supposed to be a floating floor. i had help from a professional hardwood floor installer. we used double back tape on on the right side and in and around the stairwell. we used silicone caulking around the edges and in the bathroom. we used oak 1/4 round and 1.5" baseboard stock from lowes around the edges and the slide out facings. hd did not have these in oak.
