I agree here....I have used the Kwiklube for years and have never had my steps lock up. I had a 2007 Hurricane until 2017. I lubed the steps every year and they worked just fine when I finally traded it in.

Actually, this is the stuff I have used in the past...

Seems to be still available?

All you're doing is displacing some potential rust that MAY, accumulate inside each pivot point. So many make such a big deal out of this that it's amazing. There are no BEARING surfaces. All there is is, steel to steel contact, PERIOD! Any grease, like spray lithium, WILL accumulate dirt/mud etc. around the joints and pivot points. Can you use a spray grease like Lithium, sure you can. But, because it will accumulate
the dust/mud/dirt/debris, those pivot points will need to be flushed with a form of spray carburetor cleaner every so often. Do you want to do that, HECK NO!

Silicone is not all that good either. Silicone is primarily for rubber and or other contact surfaces that are not steel. There are dry lubes out there that will work too.

Don't overthink this like so many do. Use what you either want or have, yes even WD-40 and be done with it. I've got no less than a 1/2 dozen type lubes hanging around and, I use whatever's handy. The steps don't care. The motors and mechanisms are seriously strong and can over-power even the most stubborn, non-lubed step pivot points. As long as you lube them, oh, at least every few to say, 6-8 months, your steps will work flawlessly, minus any faults.

Kwikee recommends monthly_well not during storage of course. They stop by sensing increasing amperage draw, don't have a shut-off switch, thus the monthly lube recommendation.

I use PB Blaster, the reason? My moho is a 1997 and rust is the culprit that causes all the problems. With that, I opt for the penetrating power of PB Blaster to breakup the rust. My steps work like new.

When I first needed to lube my steps, this product was the one on the shelf that seemed the best match for the job: "SeaFoam Deep Creep Multi-Use Penetrating Lubricant". They have worked smoothly ever since.

Well,
I must have missed the boat. I mean, unless one drives along the sand, three feet from the waves, for a YEAR, or more, it would take a lot for those pivot joints to rust so bad that they actually cause resistance. Now, I'll catch a bit of flack for this but, no biggie, been there done that. As I stated before, I don't lose any sleep over lubing the steps on our coach. I'll hit them with whatever's in my hand and I'm near them and, AND, I think they're in need of any lubing.

Those pivot points are not bearings in the wheels of an Indy car! They're simply bushings, period. ANYTHING sprayed in or around them, including penetrating oil, will work. ALL YOU'RE DOING is keeping any form of rust or corrosion from taking place. As for DIRT build up, in, on, or around each pivot point, due to any form of a wrong lubricant, geeze, again, don't lose sleep or schedule psychiatric sessions on the couch about this. They're just pivots.

My sister and her husband drove from Ontario Canada to Florida this February and this was on a brand new rv and after 6 days in Florida they went to go to Walt Disney world and the steps would not move ? so we sprayed them with wd40 to free them up and then sprayed them again with fluid film all is good now .

I use fluid film on lots of stuff it lasts a long time and the same stuff is used as a under coating to protect you rv or car from salt and brine

https://nlsproducts.ca/shop/products/fluid-film

amazing stuff

Also, any areas to lube that don't appear obvious?
Use Castor oil chain lube. It is messy when you spray it on so wear old clothes (contains graphite). I found that one application will last a full season(maybe longer- but I service the coach once a year). It will prevent dirt getting into the "bearing" and lube it as well. It is designed for motorcycle chains - that have rubber seals. Fantastic product to have in your lube arsenal.

WD-40 is a better cleaner than lubricant.

Lubrication schedules and needs will vary widely. I only "use" my MH for 6 months a year. Except for the 2 weeks travelling to and from my winter spot each year the steps stay in the out position. Lubing the steps every month when "in use" would definitely be overkill. Buying special Kwikee lube seems like an expensive exercise also. Using a lube you already have and use seems like a no brainer. Since I already use Boeing lube (boeshield) on basement door hinges, latches, slide tray rails, etc. I've used it on my steps since day one. So far 12 years and no problems with a quick spray every year or so.
