Will disconnecting negative cable only prevent converter from charging house batterie

Converter is aging and appears to be overcharging the house batteries. I will replace it over the winter months

In the interim if I put a battery disconnect on the negative termnal instead of on the positive terminal, will this prevent the converter from charging the battery while not in use?

The reason I want it on the negative terminal is there are three cables on the positive.( start boost solenoid, Inverter and generator/converter.

For storage or for while using the RV?

If in storage, just don't plug into 120 VAC.

If while using the RV see if the converter has a separate breaker you can turn off. If not, probably not too difficult to wire the hot to the converter through a switch you can turn on/off as you need to recharge the batteries. If you are using the RV, disconnecting the battery will not allow you to run any 12 VDC things.

Sure, It is safer to disconnect the negative lead. Just take the cable off and lay it somewhere safe. No need for a shutoff switch.

Do not try to start the RV under any circumstances with that cable off. Without knowing your wiring setup this is just for safety.

Thanks for the answers everyone. Having the switch on the negative cable/ ground of the battery bank worked fine. With the shore power plugged in, the converter is still suppling voltage to the lights and monitors.
